Born in Vancouver, 19-year-old Carey Wang started playing the piano when he was four years old and began studying at the Victoria Conservatory of Music in 2015, and is currently in his second year of piano performance at UVic.
He has received many awards from the GVPAF, BC Provincials, FCMF Nationals, and Don Chrysler competitions and festivals, amongst many others. He has been selected as a provincial or national representative of GVPAF since 2017 and was a semi-finalist in the OSM Manulife Competition in 2018. In 2024, he was awarded the City of Victoria Medallion Award at GVPAF for the third time.
He has performed several times as a soloist with the Victoria Symphony and the Sooke Philharmonic Orchestra. Most recently, he performed with the UVic Symphony Orchestra after winning the 2023 UVic concerto competition. Additionally, he has performed many solo recitals, including one in 2023 at the Christchurch Cathedral.
