The BCRMTA Student Composers’ Club, now entering its third year, provides an encouraging and supportive environment for young composers to learn about writing music, share their compositions, exchange ideas, and receive constructive feedback from composition teachers and fellow composers. The club is chaired and organized by BCRMTA member teacher Kathleen Feenstra (Chilliwack Branch).

Meeting Details

  • Held over Zoom on the first Sunday of each month (October–May)
  • 7:00–8:00 pm
  • Participants will receive an email reminder and Zoom link in advance of each session.
  • Each year, the club welcomes three guest composers who speak on various topics related to composing, offering students fresh insights and inspiration.

Membership Information

  • There is no fee to join.
  • Students must be studying with a current BCRMTA teacher or a BCRMTA Student Auxiliary teacher in order to participate.

Technology Requirements

It is essential that all participants know how to share music/sound over Zoom.

Before the first meeting, each student must practice sharing their music with their teacher in the format they plan to use (e.g., screen sharing composition software, video performance, live performance, PDF, etc.) to ensure that audio and visuals work smoothly.

Suggested Experience

  • Minimum: RCM / BCCM / CC Level 5 (practical) on any instrument
  • Age 10 and up

If unsure, please leave a question in the comment box at the end of the form.
The club also welcomes student composers who may not meet these criteria but demonstrate strong composition skills.
