Membership Categories
  • BCRMTA Affiliate Music Teacher (AMT) member - lives within 80 km of an established branch.
    • Provincial BCRMTA (AMT) member – lives more than 80 from a branch.
    • International BCRMTA (AMT) member – lives outside of Canada and is a Canadian citizen or has Permanent Resident status.
    • Multijurisdictional BCRMTA (AMT) member – belongs to more than one provincial/territorial RMT association.

All members are listed on the BCRMTA website with their name and contact information of their choosing: phone number, email address, and/or personal website.

AMT Requirements

Please read the following info carefully to ensure the requirements for submission are met and all necessary documents are included with your application form. 

  • Membership is open to any person who is 25 years of age or older who is a Canadian citizen or has Permanent Resident status with the following qualifications:
    • has passed the Level 10/grade 10 certificate (practical and theoretical) from any music institution recognized by the Provincial Council and who has a record of four years teaching in the subject of application. 
  • A member may transfer from a Registered Teachers’ Association in another province.
  • If the Registrar needs clarification regarding the qualifications presented by an applicant, the registrar may refer the application to the Board of Examiners. Applicants may be asked to send additional information about their education and/or work experience i.e.: university transcripts, letters of referral, employment contracts, etc.
  • Proof of age and/or citizenship need not be submitted but may be requested.

    • The VSO Teacher Ticket Pass gives certified BCRMTA Teachers up to two tickets at $25 each to select regular season concerts. Please note that some exceptions may apply, and that there may be limited numbers of BCRMTA Teachers’ Tickets available.
    • To access the VSO Teacher Ticket Pass offer, contact the VSO Customer Service Representatives at 604-876-3434 or customerservice@vancouversymphony.ca.
    • Bring a valid BCRMTA ID card (provided with BCRMTA fee receipt sent in April) when picking up tickets.
    • Teacher Ticket Pass tickets become available two weeks prior to each eligible concert

  • Vancouver Recital Society offers a 20% discount on all concerts for the 2025–26 season. This offer is available to current BCRMTA members and can be redeemed over the phone only.

    Members need to present a valid BCRMTA ID card when picking up tickets.
